International College of Liberal Arts (iCLA) at Yamanashi Gakuin University

The International College of Liberal Arts (iCLA) at Yamanashi Gakuin University is a four- year liberal arts college where the language of instruction is English. iCLA students choose from a wide array of courses as part of our innovative Bachelor of International Liberal Arts degree program. iCLA offers majors in Global Business and Economics, Political Science, Interdisciplinary Arts, and Japan Studies with electives offered in subject areas such as Data Science, Psychology and Sociology, Quantitative Reasoning and Natural Science, and Japanese Language.

Type of Scholarship Details
Tuition Waiver

We offer tuition waiver scholarships at four levels- 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. All international students can apply for the scholarships as part of the online admission process. If awarded, the scholarship will cover the full four years of the studies at iCLA.


Q1. Do I need Japanese ability to apply?

A1. No, all our courses are taught in English, so you do not need to have any Japanese ability to apply or to enroll. We teach Japanese as part of the degree, you can start from elementary level and take all the courses up to business level. 

Q2. How can I apply?

A2. Our applications are completely online. You can apply through https://apply.icla.ygu.ac.jp/. As part of the process, you can also apply for our scholarships if you wish to.

Q3. Are there dormitories at iCLA?

A3. Yes, we have on-campus guaranteed accommodation for all new entrants. There is also a cafeteria with a meal plan. It is mandatory to live in the dormitory for at least the first year.

Q4. Are there any scholarships available?

A4. Yes, we offer tuition waiver scholarships at four tiers, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. If awarded, it will cover the full four years of studies.

Q5. Can I work part-time?

A5. Yes, international students can work part-time up to 28 hours per week. We have a lot of students working at nearby restaurants, convenience stores, supermarkets etc.
